Flower Face

My grandparents called me "Flower Face" when I was little. I've always loved old children's book illustrations of flowers with faces (remember in Alice in Wonderland when the flowers sing to Alice? just the best!!)

...So when I came across these victorian flower faces I knew I wanted to do something fun with them... and after fiddling for a bit, I have a new bookplate for the shop! Yippee!

Speaking of flower faces: Sweet Sister Gina, who just had her 40th birthday, had a giveaway: a copy of Lynne Perella's new book, Art Making... and I won! I can't wait to sit down and spend some time with the book, it looks lovely. Thank you, Gina!

Goodies

I had the best time yesterday. I headed up to Ojai for an afternoon of antique stores, bric-a-brac, and ice-cream. Here are some goodies I found:

Aren't these the best? I couldn't resist the easter postcards. This little chick above has a gold beak that is slightly off kilter, and he looks rather disgruntled. I'll be making these images into tags or something fun and putting them in my shop, so keep an eye out.

Olivia

I just found out that Olivia is having a show at Bergamot Station here in LA. Her work is so amazing. There is something so fresh about her pin-ups. I'm going to try to see her show this sunday (the 24th) because she's going to be there signing books!

BCAM at LACMA

Has anyone been to the Broad Contemporary Art Museum yet? I was poking around the website today, and it boasts new work from one of my favorite artists, Ed Ruscha. Here is one of my favorite Ruscha paintings in the whole world. I could just curl up and fall asleep inside of it. It's at MOCA, if you're interested in seeing it in person.

Gift tag ideas

I've been working on a few gift tag ideas for the shop... I have so many ideas, but here are a few I've worked up:

(this small one below looks like something my grandmother would have put on a package in Omaha, Nebraska, circa 1950. I haven't decide if that's a good thing or not. Is there such a thing as "bad vintage'?)
