I've been getting in the mood for the holidays and fancied a little photoshop today.. this is a take-off of a holiday illustration I did years ago, recreated with clip art. My favorite is the Santa Hair.

Now that I can type normally (yay!) I wanted to mention that Sofia Barão is hosting her Autumn Swap again this year. I was a part of it last year.. I had a blast and made two new friends: one in the US and the other in Australia. Check it out, it's really really fun.

This woman's name is Julia Belle Oldham, and the photograph of her was taken in 1866. I think she was my great great great grandmother.

My mom brought over a box of old family photos recently and I was really excited to poke through it. It took most of the afternoon, carefully pulling apart tissue paper letters and squinting at names written in pencil a hundred years ago. I found little notes tucked behind framed photographs, and beautifully painted gift- and place cards that my great grandparents made. Look at these!

Aren't they amazing? It made me so happy to find these. I'd always been told that I was born into an artistic family, but to actually hold this beautiful work in my hands was something else. And it got me thinking about what is passed on from generation to generation.

Hence my piece at the top.
