What a blast. What a blast! I want to go back next weekend.
I had the best time, and it was such an adventure being out on my own: navigating in my gigantic rental car/boat through Seattle, across the Bainbridge Ferry, and up to Port Townsend.. I overshot exits, missed a ferry by one car and nearly drove past the entrance to the Hood Canal bridge.
Mixed Media Mandalas
My first class was Mixed Media Mandalas with the lovely Anahata Katkin. I had the BEST time in this class. I literally could have spent the rest of the time at Artfest making mandalas. Anahata is a wonderful, fun and inspirational teacher. There's a photo of me on her blog: that's me third down, concentrating so hard that I have a double chin.
You can also look at all the other beautiful mandalas in my class, here. What was amazing is that everyone's work was so different, and that each person's mandala fitted them to a T.
Abstract Pouring Frenzy
On friday I had Abstract Pouring Frenzy with Patricia Baldwin Seggebruch. This was a fun and messy class! It was really about playing with textures. Patricia's work is gorgeous and I could never paint like her, but I was excited to think about how I could incorporate what I was learning into my own visuals... especially collages.
Creative Characters
On my last day of Artfest I took Creative Characters with the wonderful Karen O'Brien. This class was a blast! Again, it was all about play and experimentation and not really leaving with a finished piece. The first two drawings were done using a technique where you draw a random circle and 3 lines (2 that intersect) and make a drawing out of whatever you see:
And the last 3 pieces were fun collage-mixed media experiments that I didn't have time to finish...one day I will finish them and have a strange little family of circus siblings.
And here are some random pictures from my trip... I wish I'd taken more, but I was so busy being in the moment that it often didn't occur to me...

and lastly, an incredibly dorky picture of me freezing my butt off on the ferry back to Seattle!
